The specifications that really count the most for fluid and system maintenance are viscosity, acid number, and distillation range. As the heater and processing equipment age, and especially as design changes are made, these values will drift from the original specs. So a fluid analysis not only measures the condition of the fluid itself, it also provides insights into the ongoing condition of the system and its components.
